India General Elections 2024 Phase 2: The General Election’s second phase on Friday had a peaceful polling process, with nearly 61% turnout until 7 pm. Polling is now complete in 14 states and union territories, and 102 villages in Bastar division witnessed Lok Sabha polling for the first time. The 2nd phase of general elections in 2024 began today across 88 constituencies in 13 states and union territories. Voters from different backgrounds actively participated, braving the hot weather. Polling was conducted smoothly and peacefully across all states and UTs.
Voter turnout was reported 60.96% by 7 pm, with strict security measures in place for a safe and secure voting environment. Over one lakh polling stations had webcasting.
Polling time was extended till 6 pm in Banka, Madhepura, Khagaria, and Munger constituencies in Bihar due to hot weather. Special arrangements were made, including shamiana, water, medical kits, and fans. Some voters and polling officials wore traditional attire. Women voters in Sikar, Rajasthan, and polling staff in Varuna, Karnataka, also wore traditional attire.
During the second phase of the Lok Sabha Election, voters from 46 villages in the Bastar and Kanker parliamentary constituencies of Chhattisgarh were allowed to cast their votes in a polling booth situated in their village for the first time. This was a significant step towards making voting more convenient for the villagers. In total, including the first phase, 102 new polling stations were set up in these parliamentary constituencies to facilitate the voting process for the villagers.
The Lok Sabha elections are taking place in seven phases until June 1st and the results will be announced on June 4th.
